RWC’s Orange office location provides an opportunity to work in a regional city in central west NSW. The Person

RWC is seeking a General Manager with superstar professional skills and qualities who will ensure that RWC’s three offices are highly functioning, organised and the team is happy and productive. This superstar will value positivity, trust, a collaborative work environment and will be solution focused, organised and a proactive self-starter.

As a natural leader, the General Manager will work closely with the Directors to ensure the continuing stability and growth of the business. This new role will report to RWC’s Directors and will be responsible for managing the day to day activities of all the business operations across the three offices. In short, RWC requires that its General Manager be a strong motivator willing to take on a challenging role in leading, guiding, identifying and coordinating all the human and operational resources that are required on a day to day basis.

Position Summary

The General Manager will report directly to the RWC Director(s) and will lead the RWC Team. 

While reporting to the RWC Director(s), the General Manager will work collaboratively with RWC’s Director(s) and the RWC Team to provide timely, accurate and high-quality support across RWC’s three (3) offices. Other broad responsibilities of the role include ensuring all aspects of the RWC business, its human and operational resources are supported and run efficiently and effectively from recruitment, marketing, project delivery and sales to finance and IT.

Key professional skills will include outstanding communication, Client and stakeholder engagement, project delivery, and the ability and desire to work collaboratively as you motivate, nurture and develop the RWC team.

Most important though is the ability to really engage with the business, its people and Clients. RWC have identified that interpersonal skills and leadership capability are paramount, as great teamwork is vital to RWC’s success. We are certainly requiring that the General Manager “can do” rather than “clock on”.

Key Responsibilities

The role of the General Manager is a new role, replacing the current long-standing position of Director/Business Manager and exists to provide strategic support to the RWC Director(s) and acts as second-in-charge (2IC) in relation to all non-Project related technical matters. The General Manager will be prepared to “step up” in the RWC Director(s) absence.   

Key responsibilities include:

Delivery of high-level professional services to support the RWC Director(s) including but not limited to:

  • Mange all aspects of RWC day to day finances and financial obligations.
  • Oversee HR, IT, and RWC Procedures; Work Instructions and Staff Handbook.
  • Oversee the delivery of high-quality training, managing and mentoring of RWC Team.
  • Provide informed and timely strategic and governance advice to maintain and strengthen RWC’s business.
  • Support communication and delivery of the business goals and strategic objectives of RWC.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
  • Facilitate problem solving to identify root causes and implement positive resolution.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and maintain RWC office services by organising office operations and procedures; preparing payroll; attending to correspondence; designing, supervising and auditing filing systems; reviewing and approving purchases; assigning and monitoring administration functions and providing confidential administrative support to the Director(s) and Managers.
  • Review and maintain all Company insurances, contracts, leases, etc.
  • Collaboratively oversee the assignment and monitoring of clerical, administrative and secretarial responsibilities and tasks among the administrative team.
  • Develop and implement an IT and communication strategy that facilitates existing business operations and supports operational improvement.
  • Co-ordinate IT system capability and platforms with RWC service providers to ensure high quality, consistent and cost-effective IT service delivery.
  • Manage key software for RWC Time & Attendance, Project Management, Contact Database and Database for tax invoice preparation.
  • Coordinate the preparation of Client tax invoices; receipt of payments, including management, in consultation with the Director(s), of aged debtors, inform Directors of variances and suggest actions.
  • Achieve financial objectives by preparing and maintaining accurate, thorough and audit able financial report sand records; scheduling expenditures; analysing variances; initiating debtor reminders and corrective actions.
  • Ensure that all statutory reporting requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide historical reference by reviewing and defining procedures for retention, protection, retrieval, transfer, and disposal of both hard and soft copy records.
  • Maintain Company efficiency by collaboratively planning and implementing office systems, layouts, and recommendations for equipment procurement.
  • Review, design and implement RWC policies by establishing standards/benchmarks and procedures; measuring results against standards/benchmarks; making necessary adjustments.
  • Complete operational requirements in consultation with Project Managers by scheduling and assigning RWC Team; following up on work results.
  • Keep Directors and Management Team informed by reviewing and analysing special reports; summarising information; identifying trends.
  • In close consultation with the RWC Director(s) and RWC Senior Consultants; oversee, develop and implement a business development plan for RWC that shapes and grows RWC’s business activities across the mining and quarrying sectors and related construction industries within NSW, ACT and Queensland and for corporate clients across Australia.
  • Monitor, review and report on the return on investment in business development initiatives.
  • Optimise communications and customer interaction using collective RWC resources to deliver business growth to business activities, initiatives and services.
  • Maintain RWC team requirements by recruiting, shortlisting and/or interviewing/selecting, inducting, and training new employees in consultation with the RWC Director(s).
  • Take responsibility for the development, implementation and review of RWC Team Career Progression Plans.
  • Take responsibility for the continual review of the RWC Staff Handbook, Policies, Procedures and Practices and ensure implementation within the RWC team.
  • Report to the RWC Director(s) all potential conflicts which may have the potential to become industrial/legal matters.
  • Promote a healthy RWC team morale and enthusiasm by acknowledging, rewarding, coaching, counselling, and performance managing; planning, monitoring, and appraising position/project results.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional opportunities as appropriate.
  • Sensitively and proactively handles Client enquiries and complaints.
  • Actively manage internal staff relations.
  • Monitor and maintain a safe and secure working environment.
  • Attend from time to time, all RWC’s office locations, relevant industry functions and conferences and provide feedback to Directors including market and emerging trends.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and MYOB.

  • Assist the RWC Director(s) to manage the administration for the Company and Accountant.
  • Proven experience in strategic Human Resource management and understanding of contemporary ER/IR law and practice.
  • Excellent communicator with high level influencing skills and ability to build teams and work as part of high performing Management Team. There will be a requirement for regular contact with each Team member, including regular time in each RWC office.
  • Act as a conduit between the Director(s), leadership team and the RWC office(s).
  • Act as the sensitive eyes and ears on behalf of the Director(s).
